FYI, “ube” is pronounced “oo-bay” not “oob.”

I have been dying to try the HUDA Ube Collection – partly because my boyfriend is Filipino but also because we haven’t quite seen this colour-way in the beauty world so far. We're so excited to announce that the wait is over, as you can now find the Ube collection across all Sephora stores in Australia and New Zealand as of the 20th of February!

It’s been interesting to watch the online hype in other countries, and now that I’ve finally gotten my hands on it, here’s the Chatty Chums review you’ve all been waiting for.

My Review

The Easy Bake Loose Baking & Setting Powder in Ube Birthday Cake quickly became a favourite for medium/deep olive skin tones as the vibrant pink-purple undertone works to brighten dullness and hyper-pigmentation. Despite my excitement, I was worried about whether this shade would work for my light/ medium skin tone. However, I’ve found that this product is more versatile than it seems, working well to set makeup or even blend blush into the under-eye area.

When I tested this shade on our Editor, Sophie, who is around M.A.C NC25 and has more of those medium olive tones than I do, the Ube Easy Bake Loose Powder looked stunning and flawless under her eyes when used with a puff. The technique really makes all the difference: applying with a puff intensifies the pigment dramatically, while a fluffy brush diffuses it to brighten the complexion with a subtle glow. If you sit around a M.A.C NC20 like myself, I would recommend using this powder with a brush for a softer look.

I absolutely love using the Ube Cream Blush Filter and UUU-Baby Lip Gloss, and they work beautifully for my skin tone. However, I’m not entirely convinced these shades would be as flattering on deeper skin tones. The blush and gloss both feel a bit pale and could appear ashy on medium to deep skin, which makes me wonder if a richer, deeper purple inspired by the true colour of ube would have been a better match for the target audience. I’ve also come across feedback from true olive-toned girlies, who raised an important point: offering at least two versions of these shades could help cater to a broader range of skin tones.

Overall, the HUDA Ube Collection is an example of innovation in today's overly saturated beauty market. While it has its standout moments—especially with the adaptable setting powder—the collection as a whole could benefit from a richer color palette that more accurately represents the essence of ube. That said, I’m still so obsessed with the concept and love seeing brands push creative boundaries like this.
